The Yellowstone region is my headwaters—where I began, and where I continue to flow through this incredible life.

I’m a lifelong resident of Cody, Wyoming, with over 42 years of deep roots in this remarkable corner of the world. As a native son of the East Gate to Yellowstone, I’ve spent my life exploring the trails, rivers, peaks, and hidden gems of the park and its surrounding communities. I created Yellowstone Unpacked to share that lifetime of experience with you, because I believe the best travel stories start with a local guide.

Nearly two decades ago, my wife and I followed an opportunity west to Idaho, where I began my career as a high school science teacher. But the pull of home was too strong to ignore. When a chance came to return to Cody and raise our growing family in the shadow of the Absarokas, we answered that call without hesitation.

Now, years later, I’m still discovering something new around every bend—only now with my children by my side. I hope they grow to cherish this place as I do, and that no matter where life takes them, the Yellowstone region will always call them home, too.
